These terms apply when you use reversi.site. We have kept them short and tried to make them fair.

Who runs reversi.site

reversi.site (“the service”) is run by Opak Oy (business ID 2950233-8), Kivikastintie 24, 65300 Vaasa, Finland (“we”, “us”). By using the service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

The service

reversi.site is a free Reversi game in your browser. You can play the computer, play online, play a friend on the same device, try the daily challenge and learn the rules and strategy. There are no accounts, no payments and no ads.

Online play

Matchmaking

Online matchmaking pairs you with another player who is searching at the same time. If no other player is available, you are matched with our computer opponent instead, and the game tells you so before it starts.

Move clock

In online games each player has 30 seconds per move, and 60 seconds for their first move. If your time runs out, you lose the game. If your connection drops, the game pauses and you have up to 60 seconds to reconnect (at most 2 minutes in total per game). After that the game ends and your opponent wins. When you choose to play the computer, or two players on one device, there is no clock.

Private rooms

The first person who opens your invite link joins your room, so share the link only with the person you want to play.

Fair play and respect

  • Choose a nickname that isn't offensive, hateful, sexual or threatening and doesn't pretend to be someone else. Don't put personal details in it, such as your full name, phone number or email address.
  • Use reactions to be friendly, not to harass other players.
  • Don't let a computer program choose your moves in online games.
  • Don't try to disrupt, overload or cheat the service, for example by sending automated or manipulated requests or by trying to reach parts of it that are not meant for you.

Search engines, accessibility tools and normal browser features are of course fine. We filter nicknames automatically, but no filter is perfect. If these rules are broken, we may end games, remove nicknames or limit access to the service.

Your privacy

How we handle personal data is explained in our privacy policy. You can change your cookie choices at any time in Cookie settings, linked at the bottom of every page.

Availability and changes to the service

We work to keep reversi.site running smoothly, but we can't promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, and we may pause or end the service. Online games may end if our server restarts, for example during an update.

Your stats and settings are saved only in your browser. If you clear your browser's data or switch to another device, they are gone, and we can't restore them.

Content and licenses

The game of Reversi itself is free for anyone to play. The code, design, texts and graphics of reversi.site belong to Opak Oy or its licensors. You may use the service for your own play, link to any page and add the game to your website with the embed code on our About page. Please don't copy the site or present it as your own.

reversi.site is built with open-source software, such as Express and Socket.IO (both under the MIT License). Their licenses apply to those components.

Trademarks

Othello® is a registered trademark of MegaHouse Corporation. reversi.site is independent and not affiliated with MegaHouse or the World Othello Federation. Other names on this site may be trademarks of their owners.

Liability

reversi.site is free, and we provide it as it is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for interruptions, errors, lost games or lost statistics, or for what other players do.

This does not limit our liability for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under mandatory consumer protection law.

Children

reversi.site is for players of all ages. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before you choose a nickname for online games, send us a message, or allow Analytics or Stats on this device. Online games have no free-text chat: players can only send six preset reactions, and nicknames are filtered.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. If something goes wrong, please contact us first, and we will try to sort it out.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features. The date at the top shows the latest version, and important changes are listed below. If you keep using reversi.site after a change, the updated terms apply.
