    About this game

    Pick a mode and start playing – no account, no download, no ads. Play the computer at five levels, play someone online, or pass one device between two players.

    Play the computer

    Choose one of five levels and whether you play Black or White. Black always moves first.

    • Beginner – Still learning, makes mistakes
    • Easy – Knows corners are good
    • Medium – Plays solid moves
    • Hard – Thinks several moves ahead
    • Expert – Our strongest computer

    Undo and up to three hints per game are available. Your results, win streak and rating stay in your browser, and games where you use Undo or hints don't change your rating.

    Play online

    Press Find an opponent. Online matchmaking pairs you with another player who is searching at the same time. If no other player is available, you are matched with our computer opponent instead, and the game tells you so before it starts. Online games have 30 seconds per move (60 seconds for your first move); if your time runs out, your opponent wins.

    To play a friend, create a private room and send them the invite link.

    Two players, one device

    Take turns on the same screen – handy for teaching someone the game. There is no clock and no Undo.

    How to play here

    1. Choose a mode: Computer, Online or 2 players.
    2. Against the computer, pick a level from Beginner to Expert and choose your color.
    3. Online, press Find an opponent.
    4. Click or tap a square marked with a dot to place a disc. Every opponent disc trapped in a straight line between your new disc and another of your discs flips to your color.
    5. If you have no legal move, your turn passes automatically. When neither player can move, the game ends and the player with more discs wins.

    • No account and no ads. Your settings and stats stay in your browser.
    • Keyboard play: move around the board with the arrow keys and place a disc with Enter or Space.
